Our group decided to choose the song 'Take Shelter' by Years and Years because we thought this would be a fun song to try and replicate as well as editing the music video in time with the song and how they produced the video themselves; as well as this we all liked the song too.
We hadn't thought about costumes mainly because our main goal was to edit the music video in time with the song however, Emily (our main protagonist of the video) was dressed like Olly (the boy who is the singer in their video) to create a sense of realism; as well as this we had Nicole wear something colourful as the girl did and we made sure to include the face paint and the leaves in her hair.
Location was a simple choice made as we needed a place where it looked forest-y, so we had chosen a suitable location by the school.
When it came to editing, there was really nothing too hard that came across however it was a bit of a challenge editing in time to the actual video, however it is a skill learned. In terms of lip-syncing it was harder than imagined but it was something enjoyable and i look forward to editing in the future in our own music videos.
I feel that if we could edit our prelims again and make them better i would change the very beginning part when we have the shot of the back of Emily's head and move the camera around the front of her face like in the video. In addition to this when she is running down the hall it would have been appropriate to edit her running to slow motion because that is what had been done in the video. Furthermore we could have panned the camera around her face when she is beginning to sing in the outdoors.
In contrast to this i feel the good things about our prelim were we had edited the lip-syncing sufficiently. I also feel that in terms of editing when we had to jump cut shots in the video they were done quite well; for example we had a close up shot of Emily singing then we had to jump cut to a long/wide shot of her then jump cut again to a high angle/ close up shot of her feet.
In the future when we create our own videos, i feel that we will be skeptical about using an 'outside' person in our video because it may not be as effective as using ourselves and by this i mean our chosen 'outside' person/people may be unreliable or their timetable may be different to ours; by this i mean they may not be available when we are and with this a conflict could arise. However Emily (Rosie's sister) was very good in that sense as she helped us out as great deal and she was available when we needed her; so that turned out PERFECT! So many thanks to Emily for that. What we will use in our future video are the many different camera angles, as this would allow us to put our editing skills to the test.
